Nicole assists Dr. Gregory in developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, clinical-informatics tools (mHealth and telehealth), and educational programs related to simulation and virtual-reality methods to improve healthcare quality. Duties and responsibilities include: tracking objectives, milestones, deliverables, status reports, and study results; supervising and managing research staff and students; translating study design decisions into concrete tasks, assisting in setting implementation priorities; manage communication among staff, study sponsors, healthcare professionals, and investigators, to ensure on-time reports and other deliverables; work with investigators and administrative staff to maintain budgets, monitor project spending, and develop and maintain IRB protocols, and other research-related documentation. Nicole is a UF Public Health and Health Professions Master's Student (MPH) concentrating on Social and Behavioral Sciences. Her health interests include prenatal care and maternal health, child and adolescent health, and health disparities.

Miad works as a Research Assistant with Dr. Gregory on developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions, clinical-informatics tools (mHealth and telehealth), and educational programs related to simulation and virtual-reality methods to improve healthcare quality. Miad's background is in Health Information Management and Healthcare Informatics and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Florida, under the supervision of Dr. Gregory. Her primary research interest is EHR simulations, but she is keen to explore other Biomedical Informatics areas, including machine learning and genomics.

Sherene holds a M.D. degree from Indiana University's School of Medicine and since 2020 she has served as a Resident Physician in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX.

Research Assistants



Research Assistant
Sean is currently working as a Research Assistant involved in various tasks such as data extraction and synthesis, leading consensus meetings, conducting literature reviews, managing interns, and assisting with multiple grants. He joined our team shortly after graduating from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario with a Bachelor of Health Sciences - Honors degree. Sean’s primary interests are in oncology and addiction, both in clinical care and research. In August 2024, Sean will be leaving his position at HOBI to begin his first year of medical school at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He hopes to continue working with HOBI on meaningful research throughout medical school and his career.

Research Assistant
As a part time research assistant, Jessie's role covers a variety of responsibilities including literature searches and reviews, qualitative and medical record coding, and natural language processing annotation. Jessie is currently a graduate student at the University of Florida working on her Master of Public Health degree, with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Jessie completed her Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences here at UF in 2020 and spent two years working in behavioral health clinics. Her areas of interest include health education and reducing health disparities.

M.D. Student
Chase is working towards his M.D. here at UF's College of Medicine. Chase joined our team in the Summer of 2023 through the Medical Student Research Program (MSRP) and has continued working with our team on a research project related to vascular surgery. He is also the first author on one of our research project poster submissions that is being presented in Chicago at the 2024 International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Healthcare.

M.D. Student
JP is working towards his M.D. at University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. JP has been working with our team since Fall of 2021, specifically on a social determinants of health study entitled "Addressing patients' social needs in primary care". JP assists with patient recruitment, data cleaning, organization, and analysis, and clinical note annotation.

Undergraduate Students



Psychology and Neuroscience Student
As a senior undergraduate student studying psychology and neuroscience, Alice is interested in exploring a career in applied psychology research to solve ethical and accessibility problems in human-technology interactions. Her current role as a research intern for our team has exposed her to the field of Human Factors Psychology/ Engineering in healthcare; Alice is excited to learn more about the field as she continues to develop her skills in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing, and literature review. Alice is open to interacting and learning from professionals with research interests in human factors psychology/engineering, user experience, virtual reality, human-computer interaction, AI ethics, and decision-making as she further develops her career post-graduation.

Psychology Student
Rachel is a UF Psychology student with a focus in Social Psychology. Rachel is interested in mental health and empathy as they relate to the field of Psychology and she's exploring ways to make a positive impact through research. Rachel plans to continue her academic career in Medicine after graduating and hopes to significantly contribute to the field and enhance healthcare. As a research intern on our team, Rachel has developed skills in the areas of: consensus coding, data collection, data analysis, manuscript writing, and literature review.

2023 Fall Interns: Alice Abia-Okon & Victoria Sortino
The Active Learning Program (ALP) is a 1-semester internship and research program that connects eager, well-trained undergraduate students with UF faculty and community mentors engaged in in-person, remote, and hybrid internship and research projects. Each semester we have anywhere from 2-6 interns with varying academic backgrounds. The interns primary role is to assist with various tasks related to our projects. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to data collection, literature review, design, data analysis, writing, and interpretation of results. Interns may also be required to attend research team meetings, presentations, and other events related to projects.

Abigail graduated with B.S. in Biomedical Science in 2023 and she has been accepted into Medical School for Fall 2024. During her gap year before Medical School, Abigail has been working as a Patient Care Assistant at Kaleida Health.

Alexandria is a M.D. Candidate (Spring 2024) at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and was accepted into their OB/GYN residency program.

Nida has over four years of work experience in data analysis, communication, and critical thinking, with a focus on the healthcare sector. She is passionate about using data to inform and improve health outcomes, services, and policies. Nida holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Biomedical Informatics from Ohio State University, where she developed skills in data management, visualization, and reporting. Nida is currently a Business Intel Analyst at Corewell Health, a leading provider of integrated health solutions.

Kyi has her Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and since September of 2023, Kyi has been a Marie Skłodowska–Curie Actions Research Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

Since 2022, Dana has served as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Health Services Research & Administration at the UNMC College of Public Health in Omaha, Nebraska.

Alumni
Alyssa is an industrial-organizational psychologist with expertise in personnel selection, employee assessment, research methodology, and psychometric evaluation. She has experience developing high-stakes personnel tests including situational judgment tests, knowledge tests, and personality assessments; conducting large-scale validation analyses of personnel assessments; developing structured interview content; and data programming and analysis to support a range of testing programs. Alyssa's current role is People Research Scientist at Meta in Washington, D.C.
